A Mother's Touch
Stories of gender-based violence are common and we think it can never happen to us until it does. For this project, I chose to revisit a traumatic event that happened to me when I was younger. This series is a recreation of exercises I did with my mom after the event as a way of therapy. The process of making these photographs made me feel like an actor recreating these scenes. On reflection, it triggered the emotions related to the event which has allowed me to realize how this process of making and reflection is all a cycle of healing. Creating this work has allowed me to share my story and show that it is possible to get to the other side.
This body of work was on display at The Association for Visual Arts Gallery from 18 August - 29 September 2022 for the First Thursdays 10 Year Anniversary Exhibition.
